Blog article, Leonardo Costa, Jan 11 2011, The Visual Effects of A Space Odyssey: It makes comparisons of the modern technology used in most modern day films (e.g green screen, 3D Software, track movements) and how they used the practical effects in 1968. Detailed listing of what they did and used, and how this effected the film to make it one of the most revolutionary of its time. Specifically I can look at how they made the Star Gate sequence using the 'Slit-scan' method, and how there is a comparison to the VFX in Ex-Machina. - Costa, Leonardo (2011). This is an article from Mike Kaplan, exploring the marketing of Stanley Kubrick's A Space Odyssey; from the change of its original marketing to the more apt idea following the difference of a typical action-adventure movie of the 1960s in comparison to the breakthrough. - Kaplan, Mike (2007). This is a PDF by Peter Kramer, with a lot of good information, I have a focus here on the marketing issues and differences that can be resourced. - Kramer, Peter (2009). ‘Dear Mr. Kubrick’: Audience Responses to 2001: A Space Odyssey in the Late 1960s [online]. This is another source written by Peter Kramer, however an internet article specializing in the special effects but also showing interest in the issues of the marketing. I can definitely look further into the sites referenced by Peter Kramer, particularly the books. - Kramer, Peter (2014). The Ultimate Spectacle [online]. Puremovies: Columns. This YouTube video is the BBC Radio three in voice discussion of Stanley Kubrick's impact on Science Fiction with four guest speakers, its very helpful to the technology point of view, and lots of factual information, however weighs in on many of the other LOs that need to be covered.
